I have been using a Philips Juicer Mixer Grinder for the last 5 years. Its amazing to have such a juicer as it is noise free and churns out juices in few minutes. The concoctions I make are both fruit and vegetable juices. But personally I like vegetable juices because it has lots of health benefits.
Juices to me means taste, energy and no fat. Intake of juices can peel off the pounds as well as pack the body with lots of energy, vitamins and minerals.
Vegetables are cholesterol free and are rich in vitamins. It has lots of fiber. So vegetables when churned and taken as juice has a very good effect on the skin. It brightens and lends a glow to the skin. The brighter the color of the vegetables, the more beautiful the skin will glow. It has antioxidant as well as nutritive properties.
I ideally make juices of carrot, tomato, spinach, bottle gourd, cucumber, coriander, bitter gourd and sometimes of other vegetables. I always prefer to have a mix of carrot, beetroot and tomato with a dash of lemon juice, pepper and salt.
How I Prepare My Vegetables
The most important thing that I keep in mind before taking the juices out are to immerse the vegetables in a bowl of water for 1 hour. I then wash it well and grate it and then put it into the juicer.Sometimes I dice it into cubes also. I prefer to take the juices directly without straining it. The intake of fiber will be good and will have a beneficial effect on the digestive system.
The concoction that I always prepare at home:
Coriander and bottle gourd juice
- Bottle gourd-diced – 2 cups
- Coriander leaves – a handful
- Lemon juice – 1 tsp
- Pepper and salt to taste
As bottle gourd is rich in water content so no need to add any amount of water. It taste good and has very soothing effect on the stomach.
Spinach and tomato soup
- Spinach (blanched) – 1 cup
- Tomato – 2 nos chopped
- Salt to taste
Churn it in a juicer and drink it fresh.
Spinach is the greenest of all vegetables and has anti aging properties.
Thank you to Surama Sarangi for submitting her personal experience with juicing. Sumara in a nutritionist living in India and is a staunch advocate of drinking regular fresh juice concoctions for optimal health. She’s a girl after my own heart!
I think it’s imprtant for us to note that Sumara uses a blender and not actually a juicer, which is what most of us think of when talking about juicing here in the states. Using a blender isn’t an uncommon way of making fruit and vegetable juice however. It’s actually what the very popular Magic Bullet is as well.
